DEMONSTRATION IN GREAT YARMOUTH

NO TO CASUAL LABOUR
PORT OF YARMOUTH

The Yarmouth port employers have made redundant the remaining Yarmouth dockers and have stated that they will bring in casual labour to do dock work. Unite the Union opposes these dismissals and the casualisation of work.

JOIN THE PROTEST ON THE 9 JULY, WHICH WILL BE HELD ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE PORT OFFICES AT 20-21 SOUTH QUAY, GT YARMOUTH, ASSEMBLING AT 4.30 PM.

I'm copying an email from the south bank of the Humber... I hope that members from Felixstowe will be able to attend too.

Hi Andy,

Are you aware of the forthcoming protest in Yarmouth on the 9th July.

The protest is being arranged by Mike Gibbons to protest against the use of agency workers on the new Panamax gantry cranes.

I will be attending with several comrades from the south bank of the Humber, there will also be some members attending from the north bank. This is to show our solidarity and support to all ports.

Best regards

Chris.

Hello again brothers,

I have ordered 4 of the banners so far, 2 for ABP Grimsby & Immingham, 1 for ABP Hull & Goole and 1 for DFDS Torline Immingham. Obviously Each company will have their own name and location displayed.

If any one has any contacts who are going to participate in the protest at Yarmouth on the 9th July please let me know the company names and ports and I will be happy to order the banners. I believe this will help to show that we are linking up on the national level now and contribute to others joining our fight.

The banners are £40.00 plus vat. I will be able to provide reciepts if any of you require them.

In solidarity,

Chris Jubb.

Subject: casual labour

Good evening

I have to say what you are doing to your workforce is totally outrageous - so many years of loyalty snuffed out.

However on the plus point I work at The Port Of Felixstowe so it is obvious to us that nobody will leave Felixstowe to go to a nice new terminal that is employing poorly trained casual labour. What shipping company would put a ship into a Port which does not have a directly employed workforce. I would imagine all the " no win no fee " lawyers are rubbing there hands together. We at Felixstowe all realise how dangerous the Norfolk Line is - I would imagine they will have no intention as to go back to your Port.

However if it is your priority to save a few quid for the sake of a safe workforce then you go right ahead.

I am a member of the T&G / Unite and will look forward in taking part in any form of action against this totally unacceptable situation.

Yours sincerely

Michael Rogers
