HAPAG-LLOYD has announced internally an across the board pay cut of at least 5% for all staff worldwide including seafarers, with senior employees facing a 20% reduction in salary, the company has confirmed.
While most top shipping operators keep their remuneration policies under wraps, sources familiar with the maritime labour market are not aware of any other big name operator that has adopted a similar policy.
However, Hapag-Lloyd indicated today that its hand has effectively been forced, as taking an axe to payroll and other costs is a condition of the €1.2bn ($1.8bn) in loan guarantees it is getting from the German government.

management should take cuts, however staff should be left alone,if they dont agree to the cuts, staff have been told the redundancy package will be revoked, and they will only get goverment redundancy, THIS IS BLACKMAIL, a good company gone to the dogs.
take the salary cut or have your contract terminated and be issued with a new contract with a lower salary. thats the option we are being given. wish i had taken the redundancy last june, at least those who took it as all happy and working again. how long before Hapag goes BUMP !!
atmosphere here in hapag is awful, we are just waiting for the next blow. staff all looking for other jobs, all we are hearing is cuts cuts cuts, why oh why didnt they let NYK buy us. we are now run by bullies and yes men. used to be proud to work for hapag, now ! well waiting for next round of cuts, 15 happy years, 2 very unsure unhappy years.

most staff looking to get out,funny when you hear of a job vacancy elsewhere, its all the Hapag staff at the interviews. think that shows what we all think of them.

Hapag Staff, run run as fast as you can, backroom info is more staff cuts and a uk office to close, why cant Hapag be open with staff,we work hard then get hit with a brick
